The Game

Tips for playing the Corner Shuffleboard Players game.

The Objective

Be the first person or team to reach 21 points.

Starting the Game

Each team shoots one rock. The team with the closest rock to the end of the board, without falling off, chooses which team goes first. If both rocks fall off the board, both teams shoot again until one team places a rock on the board. When shooting for first shot, you are not allowed to knock the opponent's rock off of the board. If you this happens, then your opponent gets to choose who goes first.

Shooting

Each team starts the round with 4 rocks. One rock at a time is to be shuffled along the playing surface toward the opposite end of the board. Teams shall alternate shots one for one. Once a rock is stopped it must be over the centre line. If the rock does not pass all the way over the centre line then it is considered a dead rock and should be removed from the playing surface. You must make at least one bank in order for your rock to become "alive". If you do not make one bank, it is considered a dead rock and should be removed from the board. The team that recorded the last point(s) in the previous round goes first, and gives up the hammer. In the event of a blank end where no points are scored, the team who shot last will now shoot first.

Scoring

Once all of the rocks have been shuffled, the team with the rock or rocks closest to the end of the board scores points. The amount of points given is determined by the position of the rock. If the rock is located in the 1, 2, or 3 point areas then the corresponding amount of points are received. A rock must be fully across the "1" line in order to score 1 point. A rock must be fully across the "2" line to score 2 points. A rock must be fully across the "3" line to score 3 points "The hanger" – If a rock is hanging off of the end of the board, and does not fall off, this is considered a "hanger" and is worth 4 points. "The corner" – If a rock is hanging off of the end of the board and over the side of the board at the same time, this is considered a "corner" and is worth 5 points. If two rocks from opposite teams are determined to be equal distance from the end of the table, these rocks are both considered dead and the next closest rock(s) score points. If one team has a "hanger" and the other team has a "corner," the team with the corner gets the 5 points as it is worth more than the hanger.
